we've been in the gulley park area a few years now and i finally took the family down to devils den last saturday. am i the only one who kept putting it off? everybody says it's right there, but it's a solid 40 min once you get off 49 and onto 170, and with soccer on saturdays it never worked out.
the kids were way more into the crevice and cave stuff than i expected. my youngest wanted to do the whole thing twice. the old ccc stonework around the dam and the cabins is cool too. color was only just starting to turn up there, so i'm guessing the next couple weeks are the real show.
the lot was pretty full by 10 and we ended up parking along the road. should we have gone earlier, or is that just how it is in october? and which trail would you do next time with a 6 and 9 year old, something with a payoff but not a huge hike?
also, is there a decent coffee stop anywhere between west fork and town? we came back through with nothing and i suffered a little.
